Microchips were once thought to be the stuff of Science Fiction. However, they quickly turned into an every day component used in various electronic equipment including computers. These days you can actually find microchips in just about everything you own including: cars, radios, televisions, phones, and even appliances. You can even have microchips installed beneath the skin of your pets so that you can find them if they ever run away!

In the early 1950’s Geoffrey W.A. Dummer begin to introduce the idea of a microchip that could hold immeasurable amounts of information and carry out various tasks. He is considered to be one of the founding fathers of the microchip. His idea was to create a circuit with wires that could hold information and carry out actions. He began to promote his idea which was later taken to the next level by Jack Kilby of Texas Instrument, who fashioned the very first microchip in 1958.

From 1958 on researchers began to make further advancements in the power and size of microchips. In present day society there are microchips so small that they can be barely spotted by the human eye. Additionally, these tiny microchips can hold extreme amounts of data and can carry out millions of tasks.

Microchip technology is one of the many types of technology that is always increasing, growing, and changing at a rapid rate. Every day more and more advancements in the sizing and power of microchips is being perfected at an alarming rate.

The future of microchips and their use is very widespread and amazing. It is believed by most researchers that in the very near future they will have created microchips so small and at such an affordable rate, that they will be able to attach small antennas to them and place them in and on every type of product ever created. This includes clothing, books, and household fixtures. These microchips can then be used to track the actions and behavior of people all over the world.

Many people look at this advancement in microchip technology as an invasion of privacy, while others look at it as an amazing way to track criminals and to stop crimes. Whatever the case may be, there is no denying the appeal and the power of the common microchip that continues to technologically advance day after day.
